Jerry Bryant
Jerry Bryant is a folk singer, songwriter, and independent folk scholar from the state of Maine. His repertoire spans 500 years of American, Irish, and British traditions, with a special emphasis on maritime music. Accompanying himself on concertina, guitar, banjo, ukulele, and bones, he adds historical research insights to his performances.
Bryant created the concertina soundtrack for the first-edition audiobook of Nathaniel Philbrick’s In the Heart of the Sea and plays on the soundtrack of the film The Lightkeepers. He has released two CDs: The Ballad of Harbo and Samuelsen and Roast Beef of Old England. Under the alternate persona “Salty Dick,” he performs renditions of Oscar Brand‘s bawdy sea songs. As a teacher, he appears regularly at folk music camps and festivals with workshops ranging from “African-American Sea Chanteys” to “How To Play The Bones.”
