Stan Hugill took this song from the Swedish Capt. Sternvall's collection. Though it was listed as a halyard shanty, Hugill finds this "difficult to accept" both for reasons of content and structure:

Many Scandinavian and German shanties repeat the verse as a chorus, but there is not even the suggestion of a chorus in this song. Perhaps it was sung by all hands as a hand-over-hand shanty.
